Financial Assistance

This section provides you with information about financial assistance resources at MSK and outside MSK. This includes MSK’s Financial Assistance Program and prescription assistance programs.

To speak with someone about your options, contact your Patient Access Coordinator (PAC). You can call your doctor’s office to learn who your PAC is. If you don’t know your doctor’s office phone number, you can look it up on our Find a Doctor page.

Financial Assistance Program

Managing the cost of your cancer treatment can be stressful and difficult. If you are having a hard time paying for your care, you can apply for MSK’s Financial Assistance Program (FAP). To apply, you’ll need to meet income requirements and give MSK documentation such as proof of your income and your assets as well as information about your personal background.

We understand that patients may have been financially impacted or have financial distress resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Our patient billing services team is available to help. Please contact us at 646-227-3378 to learn about various financial assistance options.

Prescription Assistance

Patients may have a high co-pay for their prescription medications that is not covered by their insurance. Prescription assistance programs provide financial aid to qualifying patients. All programs are income-based, and the application process varies.

You may apply for programs through drug manufacturers or foundations. Many drug manufacturers will provide free medication to patients who qualify. Foundations may provide financial support to people who qualify that may cover some or all of the cost of their medication. Foundations are only open for a limited amount of time when funding becomes available.

You may be able to receive medication at a lower cost by signing up for a co-pay prescription savings card.

Most prescription assistance programs require that you complete a full application, meet a set of income requirements, provide proof of income, indicate your household size, and specify your insurance coverage. They may also conduct a credit check.

MSK Patient Financial Services (PFS) can assist you in applying for available programs. Please let your doctor’s office know if you are interested in applying for a prescription assistance program and they can put you in contact with your PFS Patient Access Coordinator.

Social Work

Our social workers provide emotional support and guidance to patients and their families and friends. Some of our services include ongoing programs for patients who are in treatment and their caregivers and in-person and online support groups. We can also help with practical issues such as transportation problems and financial concerns.

Social workers are available on every patient floor of the main hospital and at all of the outpatient facilities, including our regional clinics. To speak with a social worker, ask your doctor or nurse, or call the number listed above.
