Positions are available for prospective graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the research group of Melinda Diver at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York City to elucidate molecular mechanisms of ion channels involved in pain sensing.

We are particularly interested in how ion channels involved in somatosensation and pain signaling perform their specialized biological functions, including their critical roles in pathophysiology. Our approach is comprehensive, combining high-resolution structure determination, biochemical and biophysical approaches, electrophysiology, and high-throughput drug screening, thereby facilitating a broad understanding of the function of ‘pain’ channels, as well as the development of new therapeutics for debilitating pain syndromes.

The Diver laboratory is equipped with state-of-the art facilities for membrane protein biochemistry, electrophysiology, and structural biology. Our research program is supported by access to high quality facilities for single-particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) including a FEI Titan Krios at MSKCC and additional microscopes, resources, and training at the New York Structural Biology Center, which includes NCCAT.

MSKCC is ideally located within the vibrant Tri-institutional community, alongside Weill Cornell Medical College and Rockefeller University, on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The community is committed to research training and offers an exciting and stimulating environment for biomedical research. Housing and childcare assistance are available.
