There often are no symptoms during the early stages of lung cancer. That is why it’s important for people who are at higher risk to get screened. If you have smoked for a long time, we encourage you to get a lung cancer screening. MSK uses low-dose CT scanning. This powerful imaging tool can find lung cancer early, when it’s easier to treat. MSK offers screening appointments at multiple locations in Manhattan, New York, and New Jersey.

You are at high risk if:

  • currently smoke or quit smoking within the past 15 years
  • are between the ages of 50 and 80
  • have smoked an average of one pack per day for at least 20 years, or the equivalent (for example, two packs a day for 10 years)
Should I be screened for lung cancer?

MSK’s Lung Cancer Screening Program offers screenings to smokers and former smokers who are at a high risk. Our online tool can tell us if you’re eligible for a screening. You can schedule an appointment right away online.

Getting screened could be a breath of fresh air.

We also recommend smoking cessation counseling or referral for individuals who currently smoke.
