There is increasing evidence that the noncancerous cells and extracellular stroma that reside close to cancer cells contribute to tumor growth and survival. This tumor microenvironment, which includes endothelial cells and cytokines, serves as a unique target for anticancer therapies. Our research focuses on modulating the tumor microenvironment to increase the effectiveness of radiation therapy.
